Gift cards
Gift cards are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Upon redemption of a gift card, the class or session booking will be subject to these terms and conditions.
Payment
Payment of the full course fees should be made in advance, and the required prompts will be in place at the time of placing a booking. It is not possible to attend a course until payment has been received.
Cancellation policy
Class cancellations and/or changes must be made via email 48 hours before the time/date of the class. For cancellations less than two days before the start of class, the purchaser will be charged a cancellation fee at the total cost of the class. if a class has been booked is not attended without cancellation that class will be considered taken and there will be no refund.
If a course or workshop is cancelled by the Studio, you will be offered the option to transfer the booking to an alternative available class.
Once you have committed to a six week course, you are able to miss two classes within that six week course to be made up when there is space available. Any more than two classes missed within the six week class will be considered taken.
Bookings have a validity of one year from the date of purchase. Any session or class booking transfers can be rearranged for an alternative date within the years contract of sale. Bookings beyond a year expiry will be void of date to transfer.
Course cancellations
Linlithgow Pottery reserve the right to cancel a course up to and including the date of the course if insufficient bookings have been received and will strive to give as much notice to book to participants as possible.
Individuals booked onto a cancelled course will be given the option of a full refund or a rescheduling to a future course date if available. When let’s go Pottery will not be liable for any losses or expenses arising from amendments to the course or cancellations.
Memberships
A person shall only become a member of the Studio when they have completed the registration form and their application for membership has been accepted by the Studio. At such time, the member shall be deemed to have irrevocably agreed to these terms and conditions.
Any member who purchased a membership by subscription shall be entitled to use of the Studio for the time allotted each month and no more. Time not used within the month cannot be carried over. A member may only book or reschedule any session for the wheel booking facility for themselves via the members booking calendar.
Membership fees must be paid in accordance with these terms and conditions, irrespective of whether or not the member uses the studio facilities.
Membership fees may be increased at the companies discretion. Member she’ll be given at least one months notice of any increase in membership fees.
Studio classes in sessions fall out of a member membership. A member may not attend any class or session hosted at the studio without first booking and paying for the relevant class or session.
To reserve a one-to-one class with the resident Potter please email with what instruction is wanted and to book a time. One to one tutelage is an additional fee from memberships and is a charge of £25 an hour. If there are more than one member interested in the same instruction, they are welcome to come together with the same fee of £25 an hour shared.
A member is entitled to use the Studio facilities during its opening hours and subject to these terms and conditions provided always that the company may time without notice withdrawal or part of its facilities for any period or periods in connection with any cleaning, repair, alteration or maintenance work or for any other reasons.
Neither Linlithgow Pottery nor Studio staff are responsible for personal belongings or any work getting damaged, lost or stolen. Although we work tirelessly to minimise damage to any work it is inevitable that in communal studio such as this there will occasionally be work that gets damaged.
If a member wishes to bring in their own materials, glazes or any equipment into the studio, this must first be cleared by a member of staff and stored in your personal storage area. Private glaziers must be checked by the technician and be compatible with the kiln firing temperatures we use within the studio.
Members cannot bring guests into the studio without the permission of the owner and studio manager. Guest passes are offered at the discretion of the Studio owner, with approved passes obtained at an additional fee. Please contact the Studio manager for more information.
Best practice should be adhere to at all times when working in the studio and respecting others is key. We will not tolerate any kind of bullying or abuse within our studio. Any of this behaviour will terminate a members membership immediately without refund.
Membership Shelving Area
Please respect other member space or need for privacy. Your storage belongs to you and we asked that you respect other members storage and private property. You will be giving your own shelf we recommend you do not leave any valuables or personal items. Please store your clay in the storage area supplied, Clearly labelled. Any extra unlabelled clay will be removed and recycled.
Studio and Shop Opening Times
Linlithgow Pottery reserves the right to Barrie opening times. Opening times will be detailed on the website and will be updated from time to time. We asked that that all visitors, students and members respect the studios times and schedule.
Health and Safety
Linlithgow Pottery takes health and safety very seriously. Students and members are agreeing to abide by the guidelines of our health and safety instructed by tutors, technicians and management. Repeated failure to do so will result in termination of the students or members participation rights on the course without refund.
Members use the Studio at their own risk with awareness of the inherited hazards of a studio environment. This can include but are not limited to the use of sharp tools and sharp edges, exposure to toxic materials, the dangers of using materials and equipment at high temperatures, as well as the risks associated with breathing silica.
Each member is required to keep all surfaces clean of clay and glaze, and to clean all areas including the floor around his or her workstation thoroughly before completing his her session. This is to minimise the risk to members caused by breathing clay and glaze dust.
Technical Issues and Breakages
Linlithgow Pottery is equipped with the highest quality kilns and equipment. Experienced and train staff only will handle and fire your ceramic work.
By the nature of ceramics, there remains a risk of technical failure for which the Studio and train staff cannot be held responsible.
If your peace gets broken, we will look closely into it not happening again. We estimate the only .2% of pieces get broken during our firings however it does happen. If you find your peace broken, it should have a note explaining what has happened. There are many variables that can impact the success of a piece. Please ensure glaze application avoids melting or fusing onto the shelf ask technicians for relevant advice if you were unsure.
When testing glazes make the appropriate catch plates for your work to sit on. If you tamper with a kiln you are financially responsible for the repair. If your glazes aren’t properly tested and applied and damage kill shelves, you are responsible for the replacing of these shelves.
Areas of the Studio
Class area
The class area is in the High Street shop/Studio located at 222 a High Street. Please be conscious to be quiet during class sessions if you need to come into the class area.
Members Studio
The member Studio is located at 226 a High Street to the back of the High Street shop. No classes are held in this area and is kept exclusively members. The members Studiois available to you at selected times please refer to the members calendar.
Library
Our library comprises of a core collection of both educational and inspirational books. These are all reference only and not to be removed or borrowed. Please feel free to use these with clean hands.
Toilet
There is one shared toilet located in the High Street shop – Studio. Do not wash hands covered in clay in the toilet area. Please use the sink located within the class area. This is the only sink which has a sedimentation tank to collect the clay sediment keeping it out with the plumbing.
Kiln & Firing Shelves Area
The killing area is below the members Studio. Please do not enter this area except to place work ready for the bisque kiln for the glaze kiln or unless instructed to do so by one of our technicians. Non-members and visitors are not allowed in the kiln area under any circumstances.
We operate a two stage firing process and both the bisque and glaze firings are included in your membership. We offer an array of glazes, slips and underglazes. These are to be used within the studio and not to be taken home.
Please collect and remove all firework within a week. Any work not collected within three months will be disposed of or used in one of our annual charity fundraisers.
Bisque Firing
All greenware ready for firing should be clearly labelled with your initials so you and the technicians can easily identify it after it has been fired. If you use a symbol rather than a signature or mark your work please tell the Studio manager sowe can add it to our list and identify it. Please place work ready to be put into a bisque firing on the correct shelving in the kiln room.
Glazes and Glaze Firing
Glaze must be applied correctly to bisqueware and there should be at least half a centimetre clearance around the bottom of each item to avoid molten glaze running onto the Kiln shelves. If you were using a runny glaze, please check with the Studio manager first and use a glaze catching plate, or cookie. If you were not sure of something, please ask the Studio manager to help you. Any damage done to a kiln shelf or the kiln itself will be charged to the person whose peace has caused that damage. This can be expensive so take care to glaze things properly.
Please do not mix or contaminate the glaze and if layering glaze, please dip from light to dark glaze in order to avoid contaminating the lighter glaze.
To protect the kills and other people‘s work, if you would like to buy glazes, stains et cetera from another supplier it is extremely important that you check with us first. Some substances can cause work to discolour. If you would like to mix your own glaze, they must be test fired and approved by the Studio management before use in a communal firing at an additional charge.
It is your responsibility to leave the glaze area clean and tidy.
Kiln batts & liability for shelf damage
Any shelf damage caused by use of the wrong clay or incorrect application of glaze is your responsibility. Work that causes shelf damage will be kept in the office for pick up and the shelf damage fee will be added. These are £140 per shelf depending on the extent of the damage. Please note that the damage fee is due whether you choose to keep the work or not.
Clay
We only fire stoneware and porcelain in the communal firings and only clay bought from us, or approved by us, can be fired at the Studio. This is in order to prevent the wrong clay getting into the kiln and causing damage. If you would like to use a different stoneware, it is extremely important that you speak to us first so that we can check it is compatible with our firing process.
If you fire a clay body in the studio that doesn’t fire to our temperatures and it causes damage, you will be liable for the cost of replacing the damaged part. This is potentially expensive as each kiln shelf cost £140 to replace. Please test fire all clay use.
Wheels
Please be aware that Pottery wheels have a very powerful motors that consent 50 kg of clay. In the event that your hair gets caught in a wheel head, you could have a serious accident. Please try long hair back when using the wheel and make sure your apron straps are tied back and you are not wearing any long, loose clothing such as a scarf. Also, if you were throwing with a bat, please make sure you know how to secure it to the wheel safely and securely. If you are not sure about this, please check with the Studio manager.
It is important that, as the wheels can generate a lot of splash clay,, all throwing areas and tools are thoroughly cleaned after use, including the sides of the wheels the stools the works shelves and the floor all around the wheel. This is to prevent splashes from drying and causing dust.
Please turn wheels off after use both at the wheel and at the wall. They can cause serious accident if someone doesn’t realise they are on and they continue to draw power, even when not in use.
Copyright
Photos taken at the studio may be published to our website, social media, or other material. Should you wish to not have your image shared publicly, please ensure that you inform the Studio manager or the owner.
Membership of payment terms
Please give us a month warning at the end of your contract if you will not be renewing. No refunds shall be given to any member in respect of any membership fees that have already been paid, in lieu of cancellation prior to the end date of their membership. Members must clear their shelf within a week of the cancellation date. If a members shelf is not cleared one week of the membership cancellation date, the Studio will sadly have to dispose of all uncollected contents.
If a member does not pay their membership fees for the minimum membership period (or cancel their membership during the minimum membership period) then the member is liable info for the difference between the rolling monthly rate at the end of the termination and the price paid by them under their subscription.
Each member agrees and acknowledges that by agreeing to the minimum membership period, they are being given preferential rates by the studio and therefore it is fair and reasonable that the member is liable for the payments referred to above. It is the responsibility of the member to cancel any direct debit or standing order with their bank and termination of their membership. The studio cannot be held liable for any payments processed due to the failure of a member to cancel a direct debit or standing order.
If the membership fees are paid by debit or credit credit card, the member unconditionally and irrevocably authorises the company to debit any credit or debit card provided by the member with the monthly membership fee or any outstanding fees without prior notice to the member.
Memberships, once the contract is started, our non-transferable and cannot be shared
Members have a set firing allowance included in their monthly fee as well as access to Studio glaziers. This is controlled at the Studio‘s discretion. If a member has more work than their included allowance, there will be an additional fee to fire their work.
Use of facilities
Children under the age of 18 may only use the Studio at the notification and approval of the Studio management.
Collection of works
You will be emailed by the studio when your pieces are ready for collection, usually this is within 3 to 4 weeks after the date of your class, but this can take longer depending on the studios kiln firing scheduling.
We request that you collect your finished work as soon as possible once you have received the pick up instructions via email to help keep our storage area clear, therefore avoiding damage. Students will be given three months to collect their work from the studio.
If finish ceramic work is not collected within three months at the end of the course we will sadly have to dispose of it or add it to you our annual charity fundraiser.
Data protection
Any personal information you give us will be processed in accordance EU GDPR. We will use this information to process your booking, to provide the course information and inform you about similar courses which we provide, unless you tell us that you do not want to receive this information.
Disclosure
We will only disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if required to fulfil our obligations under our agreement with you, e.g. We provide your name to tutor or delivery persons who may not be a direct employee.
